Of course, we are all individuals and our genetic make-up is unique.  This means that when it comes to dealing with fibroids, what works for one person may be totally ineffective for others.  However, there are some commonly accepted "good practices" and a healthy diet is advisable for everyone and selecting foods which are especially helpful for fibroid sufferers is simply an extension of this.

In some respects, treating fibroids naturally by calming down inflammation is a relatively new approach.  It certainly won't cure your fibroids altogether but can be yet another piece of the fibroid puzzle, which, when practiced with other strategies can help give relief.

Some alternative therapists and a number of doctors feel that there is a connection with inflammation and the development of uterine fibroids.  Women prone to inflammation also seem more prone to fibroids than average.  Although there could be other explanations for this, it would not do any harm to increase your intake of helpful foods.

Chronic inflammation is traditionally linked to a number of conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, eczema and arthritis.  However, recently, it has recently been implicated in the development of diabetes, osteoporosis, Parkinson's disease and even some cancers.  Although the key word is "implicated", research to prove the connection is ongoing.

When considering how to treat fibroids naturally, you need to also consider taking more exercise, reducing stress and cutting out unhealthy foods from your diet.  In terms of reducing inflammation, the following foods are thought to be very helpful:-

  • Seaweed-Based Foods-For example, kelp, wakame and arame
  • Tumeric-Often found in curry powder.  This spice can be added to many meat and vegetable dishes and is a potent anti-inflammatory with similar effects to certain prescription medication.  Other good spices and herbs include cumin and ginger
  • Green Tea-Contains flavanoids which are anti-inflammatory.  It is best drank made with filtered water and taken without milk
  • Papaya and Pineapple-Both are rich in enzymes which calm inflammation
  • Omega 3 Oils-The fatty acids found in foods such as salmon and other oily fish have numerous benefits which have been well-documented over the years. Supplements are also effective.
  • Broccoli-Other similarly helpful vegetables include cauliflower, spinach,  kale and cabbage
  • Shiitake Mushrooms-Mushrooms are an excellent source of nutrients, with Shiitake having particular properties for fighting inflammation

How To Treat Fibroids Naturally With Your Diet

Avoiding Inflammatory Foods

Ensure that you include a few of the above anti-inflammatory foods in your diet each week, but do not negate the beneficial effects of these by eating other foods which are not recommended as part of a good, healthy diet.   In particular though, you should avoid foods which are believed to contribute to inflammatory conditions and in general, these are foods which you might expect not to be healthy but there are one or two which you might not have expected to find in there.

Foods to avoid, or keep to a minimum include sugars, white refined carbohydrates, trans-fats, meats which have been treated with growth hormones, certain cooking oils (although generally those high in Omega 3 ARE healthy), processed meats, alcohol and artificial additives.

It must be remembered though that there is no "fast fix" when it comes to treating fibroids naturally.  It is actually a process of making changes to reverse the root causes, thus turning your body into an environment in which uterine fibroids cannot thrive.
