Fibroids Diet-Natural Remedies For Fibroids

There are quite simply so many natural remedies for fibroids and one piece of advice which reappears time after time is to modify what you eat and try a fibroids diet.  Indeed, within the confusing array of different remedies you might have read about, there is little doubt that eating the right kinds of foods can have a tremendous impact on your symptoms.  Indeed, when combined with other strategies, a fibroid diet can help to shrink your fibroids, making them manageable.

A diet which is high in refined carbohydrates, sugars, animal fats, acidic and toxic foods can contribute to hormonal imbalances, impair digestion and lead to insulin resistance.

Conversely, a diet which is well balanced and rich in all the nutrients the body needs for optimum health can really help to strengthen the immune system, help prevent and reduce insulin resistance, improve the elimination of toxins and help prevent and eliminate uterine fibroids.

A ten-year study which was conducted in Italy followed almost 800 women. Around a third of these women had uterine fibroids and two thirds did not.  The study concluded that what the women were eating had a enormous influence on the development of fibroids.  To give you one of the examples quoted, women who ate more dairy foods and red meats were much more likely to have fibroids than those whose tended to eat more vegetables, with dark, green leafy vegetables seeming to have a preventative effect.

Many natural remedies for fibroids will usually give some general advice about what you should be eating and whilst this is important, knowing the actual foods to include within a fibroids diet is most important.  You probably already know what the elements of a healthy diet are and the types of foods you should be avoiding and those you should be including.  With this condition though, certain foods are particularly beneficial and others have a reputation for aggravating fibroids, so lets start by looking at the general principles which should be included when using natural remedies for fibroids in the form of a fibroids diet.

  1. Use your common sense when it comes to the sizes of portions.  Even if you are not overweight there is evidence to suggest that eating larger portions of even healthy foods can overload the digestive system, contributing to hormonal imbalances. Within a fibroid diet, portion control is important.
  2. Eat good quality foods.  Try to avoid foods which have been treated with pesticides and which include artificial additives.
  3. Choose organic produce wherever possible.
  4. Consume animal protein in moderation (meats and fish).  Ensure that meat is organic and the animals have not been treated with hormones.  With regard to fish, if possible you should confirm that this is not sourced from polluted water.
  5. Avoid dairy foods, eat grains and legumes in moderation and avoid foods which have been processed.
  6. Eat plenty of non-starchy vegetables, especially leafy green vegetables such as cabbage and kale.  Keep an eye on your consumption of fruits and sugary vegetables, particularly if you are prone to candida.
  7. Try to eat a high proportion of your foods raw or use methods which require light cooking such as steaming.
In terms of the foods you should be eating, the following food lists are taken from the fibroids diet in Amanda Leto's Fibroids Miracle.  This is not an exhaustive list, but I have included the main elements so you can get a feel for what your diet should comprise of.

Natural Remedies For Fibroids

Foods To Include

  • Fruits-Great cleansing properties. Eat a wide variety and don't over-consume if you have candida.
  • Freshly Grown Sprouts-Highly nutritious and an excellent component of a fibroids diet.  Examples include alfalfa, broccoli, buckwheat, lentils, cabbage and flax.
  • Non Starchy Vegetables-These can help lower estrogen levels naturally.  Consume freely.
  • Lean, Organic Meat and Fish-Eat in moderation
  • Non-Gluten Wholegrains-For example, quinoa, rice and buckwheat.
  • Beans-Ensure they are well-cooked to aid digestion.
  • Raw Nuts and Seeds-Certain varieties contain highly concentrated nutrients, but nuts and seeds should be consumed in moderation to avoid overloading the digestive system.
  • Herbs and Leaves-Some herbs are great sources of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.  Of particular note are parsley, basil, thyme, coriander and mint.
  • Garlic-A great cleanser with natural antibiotic and antiseptic properties. Good for helping control candida and insulin resistance.

Foods To Avoid

  • Conventional Dairy Produce-Thought to cause allergies in susceptible individuals which can lead to inflammation in the body.  Also, a high proportion of dairy produce  contains hormones, pesticides and antibiotics.
  • White Sugar-Sugar is of no nutritional value and when consumed, the body creates hormones to metabolize it.  This, in turn, can lead to hormonal imbalances.  It can also lead to candida.
  • Refined Carbohydrates-The refining process strips foods of much of the nutritional value, meaning what is left is converted into a stretchy, glue like substance within the digestive tract.  This can potentially clog the digestive tract and lead to a build up of toxins.
  • Hydrogenated and Partially Hydrogenated Oils-It is now widely recognized that these commercially produced oils are bad for us, leading to fatty deposits around our internal organs.
  • Red and Fatty Meat-Conventional meats can be very hard for the body to digest which in turn can lead to a build up of toxins.  Additionally, non organic produce may  contain growth hormones. If you do eat it, choose organic and ensure it is very tenderly cooked to ease digestion and eat it no more than a couple of times a week.
  • Meat Products-These often contain undesirable additives, colorings and preservatives which should be avoided.
  • Egg Whites-Can cause allergies in some people and like milk, can clog the digestive system as they are known binding agents.
  • Processed Foods-The basis of natural remedies for fibroids are just that-natural.  A fibroids diet should consist of foods which are, as near as possible, in their natural states.  Check the ingredients in the foods you eat and avoid anything with artificial-sounding additives or chemicals.
  • Alcohol-Alcohol can cause liver problems and should be avoided.
  • Caffeine-This can lead to the disruption of hormones, an imbalance of which is a factor in the growth of fibroids.
  • Soy-Although soy is known to be beneficial for heart disease and against certain forms of cancer, there is a reported link between eating soy and low thyroid function.  As low thyroid function is associated with certain reproductive issues, it is best avoided whilst following a fibroids diet.
I hope that this information has given you an idea of the kinds of foods you should include and exclude on a fibroid diet.  This is not intended to be an exhaustive list, but more to give you the principles.   Changing your diet is one of the most important natural remedies for fibroids but it is by no means the only step you will have to take to shrink your fibroids.  Either consult a holistic practitioner for more information or consider a system such as Fibroids Miracle as I would always recommend that natural treatment is done under guidance.
